Cattail Award

Each year we put waste-free lunchers to the test. We offer the Lincoln Marsh Cattail Award to the school that packs the best overall no-waste lunch.

Who will take home the coveted award? Could it be your school? Every year, during the spring, over 1,000 students participate in the Wetlands Education Program at Lincoln Marsh. Their lunches could potentially contain a lot of unnecessary waste.

Here are some suggestions to help you pack a waste-free lunch…

OKAY TO PACK:

  • Canvas lunch bag/metal or plastic lunch box
  • Cloth napkin or washcloth
  • Refillable drink containers (aluminum cans can be recycled)
  • Metal silverware or reusable plastic utensils
  • Small servings put in Rubbermaid (or similar container)
  • Margarine tubs or yogurt containers
NOT OKAY TO PACK:

  • Paper lunch bag
  • Paper napkins/moist towelettes
  • Disposable utensils
  • Prepackaged lunch kits
  • Single-serving chips, applesauce, etc.
